She was born in Cabourg, the daughter of French baritone and theatre director Auguste Louis Giraud. She made her stage debut in Nantes in 1899 as Mimì in ''La bohème'', the same role in which she made her debut at the Opéra-Comique. She married Albert Carré, the director of the Opéra-Comique, in 1902. The couple divorced in 1924, but remarried in 1929.〔Kuhn, Laura (2000).
